- If you are finished fishing for the season, here are a couple of tips for storing your reels and extending the life of the reel.
- Store your reels inside in a dry environment.
- Wipe your reel down to remove any excess dirt and grease.
- Release the pressure on your drag to prevent the drag washers from sticking and compressing the drag springs.
- Apply one drop of oil to the handle ends.
- Apply a drop of oil to the worm gear (level wind) and turn to spread the oil.
- Store your reel in cloth or protective bag to keep dust from accumulating.
- The best advice I can give is to have your reel taken apart and inspected, cleaned and lubed before you store them. This needs to be done a least once a year to keep them performing properly. Then they are ready at the start of the season. With the cost of reels nowdays, a little extra care will go a long way in extending the life of your reels.
